Materials and Making

What Size Should I Buy?

Every product page has a size guide, plus the model's height and the size they're wearing. Still unsure? Email hello@blueandyellowproject.com and we'll help.

What Is Blue & Yellow Clothing Made From?

Our knitwear is made from recycled cotton and recycled polyester. Tees are 50% recycled cotton, 48% recycled polyester and 2% other fibers. Fleece and French terry are 59% recycled cotton, 39% recycled polyester and 2% other. Our chore coats, pants and coveralls are made from rescued surplus fabric.

What Is Reborn Cotton?

Cotton recovered from discarded clothing and textiles, then spun into new yarn.

How Many Plastic Bottles Are In A Blue & Yellow Tee?

About 5 to 6. A crewneck sweatshirt has about 9 to 10 and a hoodie has 12 to 13.

Is The Whole Garment Made From Plastic Bottles?

No. Only the polyester comes from bottles. The cotton comes from discarded clothing and textiles.

What Does OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Mean?

Every component of the garment has been tested by a third party for harmful substances. All our knitwear carries it.

What Is Confetti?

Our signature colorway. It's a nep yarn: small flecks of colored fiber are left unblended in an oatmeal base, so no two pieces look exactly the same.

Where Is Blue & Yellow Clothing Made?

Our tees, fleece and French terry are knit and sewn outside Toronto, Canada. Our socks are made in North Carolina. Our rescued-fabric pieces are cut and sewn in LA.

What Is Rescued Fabric?

Surplus fabric from mills and manufacturers that was never made into garments. The trade calls it deadstock. We find ours in the LA Apparel District and cut and sew it in LA.

Why Do Some Pieces Sell Out For Good?

Each rescued-fabric run is limited by how much fabric we find. When the yardage runs out, the run ends.

Is Everything Made On This Continent?

Our garments are. Some materials aren't. The recycled polyester yarn in our knitwear is spun in Spain. Our Sashiko fabric was made in Japan and our waxed twill in Scotland, and we found both as leftovers in LA. Our socks use some imported yarn. Our market tote is made by Apolis in Bangladesh.

Numbers and Care

Has Anyone Independently Rated Blue & Yellow?

Yes. Good On You rates us "Good" overall: 5 out of 5 for planet, 4 out of 5 for animals and 3 out of 5 for people. That rating dates from April 2022.

How Much Water Has Blue & Yellow Saved?

About 1.8 million gallons in 2025, across 2,633 garments, by our own estimate. It compares the roughly 700 gallons a conventional cotton T-shirt takes with the 8 gallons our manufacturer reports for our recycled materials. See our materials and our math.

Are Your Numbers Third-Party Verified?

No. Our water and diverted-material figures are our own calculations, and our bottle counts come from our manufacturer. OEKO-TEX Standard 100 is the one third-party certification we hold. We'd rather show our math than make a claim nobody can check.

How Far Does A Blue & Yellow Garment Travel?

Roughly 3,000 miles from our makers to you. That's an estimate. A conventional T-shirt and its raw materials can travel nearly 40,000 miles, according to an analysis published in Fast Company.

How Do I Wash My Tee Or Fleece?

Cold wash with like colors in mild detergent and tumble dry low. To make it last, wash inside out and lay flat to air dry.

How Do I Wash Rescued-Fabric Pieces?

Cold wash inside out with like colors in mild detergent and air dry. Wash as little as possible.
